About This Site

This site is published by Phillips Law Offices, a personal injury and wrongful death law firm in Chicago. It is not an independent directory, a review site, or a neutral third party. Everything here is written and paid for by the firm.

Why this site exists

Most people researching an injury claim are not looking for a law firm yet. They are trying to work out whether they have a case at all, how long they have to act, and what a claim is realistically worth. Those questions have real answers under Illinois law, and they are hard to find written plainly.

So this site collects those answers: deadlines, fault rules, what different claim types involve, and what to ask before hiring anyone. You can read all of it without contacting us. If it is useful and you decide you want to talk to a lawyer, we would like it to be us — but the guides stand on their own.

What you should know while reading

  • This is attorney advertising. We are a law firm and we would like your business. That is disclosed on every page.
  • It is general information, not legal advice. Reading it does not make us your lawyers, and no attorney-client relationship is created until we agree in writing to represent you.
  • Deadlines depend on your facts. Illinois gives most injury claims two years, but a claim against a city, a public agency or the CTA can run on one. Confirm your own deadline with a lawyer.
  • We do not rank other firms. Where our guides discuss choosing a lawyer, they give you questions to ask any firm, including ours.
  • Past results do not predict yours. Every case is decided on its own facts.
